Artist’s Statement

My art is a celebration of nature. I compose with natural elements, not to represent nature, but to express human feelings toward it. With a   butterfly's wing, a petal of a rose, a turn of a horse's neck, or the stare of a bride at a lotus in her hand moments before her wedding, I intend to load my compositions with metaphorical content that is expressive of human emotions.

Contrary to the popular trend toward free expressions, I intend for my compositions to express emotions while I keep my eyes on the beauty of expression. I want my artworks to sing, not to scream. To that end, I don't want any unintended elements in my compositions. Still, my pieces may and generally do have unintended consequences. I try to make my art a mirror in which others can see the reflection of their feelings.

In my multi-panel compositions, which I call "symvisio," I aim to incorporate what is essential to film and music, i.e., the time element. I refer to each panel of a symvisio as an unfoldment. Symvisio, from the Latin roots "sym" and "visio," meaning "viewed together," is a word that I have invented for a unique format of composition. In each symvisio, every unfoldment is a unified composition that stands on its own. Yet, when the panels are viewed together appropriately, a symvisio displays a higher order of unity upon a greater variety.
