Symvisio I

“The Spiritual Dance of Form and Color”

Oil and Sand on Canvas, 60” x 164”, 2000

The idea of a symvisio came to me when I was on a beach in Aptos, California. As I was watching the waves, a boat surfed from my left to my right. To follow it, I had to turn my head. Suddenly, I saw five consecutive paintings of the boat that combined into one picture that told me what the boat did. I realized I could incorporate the element of time into the paintings while reaching for a greater variety and more profound unity. That led to the idea of symvisio, a name that I made up and trademarked. This symvisio is my first attempt at it.
